Why the format matters
Most Oopbuy links come from one of four marketplaces: Taobao, Tmall, Weidian and 1688. They look similar — a domain, a path, an id — but the differences are not cosmetic. They tell you whether you are looking at retail or wholesale, whether the seller is a large brand shop or an individual, and whether the agent will need a minimum quantity.
Learning four shapes takes five minutes and saves a lot of confused ordering.
Taobao
Taobao is the largest general marketplace: clothing, shoes, home goods, accessories, almost everything. Product addresses usually contain item.htm and an id parameter, and they are often wrapped in tracking parameters that can be removed.
What to expect: enormous choice, wide quality range, individual sellers as well as established shops. Prices are retail. Listings often carry detailed size charts because the domestic audience expects them.
Tmall
Tmall sits alongside Taobao and is used by brand-owned and authorised shops. Addresses look similar, often with detail.tmall.com. Prices are typically higher than Taobao for comparable items, and quality control is usually more consistent because the seller is a company rather than an individual.
If a find is described as "Tmall" and priced well above similar listings, that is normal rather than a mistake. You are paying for a shop with more accountability.
Weidian
Weidian is a mobile-first marketplace popular for streetwear, shoes and smaller independent sellers. Addresses typically contain item.html and an itemID, and many are awkward to open in a desktop browser without the app.
What to expect: a lot of small sellers, frequently updated stock, less structured listings. Size charts are less consistent than on Taobao, so measure carefully and ask the agent when the chart is missing. Weidian is also where mobile share codes are most common, which is why extraction can be fiddly — see how to make a link from a share text.
1688
1688 is Alibaba's domestic wholesale site. Addresses usually contain detail.1688.com/offer/ followed by a numeric id. This is where you find the same factories that supply Taobao sellers, often at lower unit prices.
The catch is quantity. Many offers have a minimum order, and a listing that looks cheap may require five or ten units. Read the quantity field before assuming the price applies to one item. Some sellers will sell a single unit; many will not.

Reading an unfamiliar address
When a link arrives from an unknown source, read it in this order:
- Domain. Is it a marketplace you recognise, or something that merely contains the word?
- Path. Does it ask for an item, a shop or a search?
- Identifier. Is there a long id present and intact?
- Parameters. Are there tracking strings, and do they look like normal marketplace noise?
If all four check out, the address is almost certainly a genuine product link. If the domain is unfamiliar, do not paste it into your account — find the item again from the marketplace itself.
The converted address you see after pasting
Agents often display their own version of the address once you paste it. This is normal conversion, not a redirection to a different product. The test is whether the photos, title and price match the page you started from. If they do, the conversion succeeded and you can order with confidence.
Keep the original address in your notes anyway. The converted one belongs to the agent, and it may stop working if you switch services.
What every format has in common
Whatever the marketplace, a product link identifies one listing and nothing more. It does not include the option, the size, the shipping cost or any guarantee. Those are decided after the click, by you. The one thing that does carry across formats is the need to check the item before paying — a Taobao link is not more trustworthy than a Weidian one, it is simply more structured.
If you are comparing formats because you cannot decide where to shop, start with the category rather than the marketplace. A spreadsheet view lets you compare listings across all four, which is usually faster than browsing each site separately.
